Pools are a fun way to keep active and is commonly found in many hot states in America. But if you are a pool owner and are experiencing cracks, holes or other damage to your pools surface it may be time to resurface your pool!
What is pool resurfacing
Pool resurfacing is when your pools surface is restored back to its original quality surface. One of the many benefits of pool resurfacing is that it can truly complete a cleaner finish to your pool.
Cost and Time frame
Many swimming pool owners find them selfs resurfacing their pool about every 10 to 15 years. Although some surfaces like fiberglass and hydrazzo can last for up to 20 to 30 years! For around 4000 to 5000 dollars your pool can be refinished in about 5-7 days! But depending on your climate pool resurfacing can cost more because pool resurfacing can be more common, and it can be higher in demand.
Process
You may be asking yourself the question what the process is of pool resurfacing. First off, a company will sand blast, acid etch or simply scrape off the old plaster. Next your new plaster of choice will be implemented into your pools surface.
But which texture will be right for you?
- Fiberglass pools are notorious for their endurance which can be up to 30 years, but their expensive cost can be a driving push factor for many people. Fiberglass pools are almost slippery and are generally smooth. One amazing feature about fiberglass swimming pools is that they do not soak up any chemicals and they have an amazing reputation of resisting algae stains! One thing to watch out for are small fiberglass fibers sticking out from the surface. These fibers can cause itchy feet .
- Concrete pools are more durable but require a lot more maintenance and care. When swimming concrete pools have a rough touch and are generally not recommended for anyone with sensitive skin.
- Plaster is one of the most common surfaces for pools and spas. Plaster though only lasts around 7-10 years and its visually aesthetic and smoothness is a need for some pool owners! Being one of the most economical pool finishings you can purchase make sure you will have time to care for this high maintenance pool!
- Pool tiles are also an option. Pool tile is hard to install and expensive, but it is extremely customizable. Yes, it can stay for a long-lasting time and is durable but even the smallest chip or crack can ruin your pools visual representation.
- Quartz pool surfaces are stain resistant, durable and low maintenance so if you travel a lot this might be the pool for you! It also does a great job at fighting stains that can be caused by imbalanced chemicals in your water.
- Pebbles are a great way to help your pool look visually more natural. They fit in great with greenery and are very durable. In addition, they are highly durable ,do not require grout and are chemical resistant. Have a pebble surface installed can cost you from 5,000 to 7,000 dollars. The more high-end pebble installment can cost you anywhere from 8 to 15,000 dollars.
- Another option can be hydrazzo. Hydrazzo was the first available pool finisher on the market. It has a silky-smooth texture and it can withstand many years of usage. Although it is very pretty and its long reputation for being used in luxury pools it can run expensive.
- Painting your pools surface is an option. This is most commonly used on surfaces like concrete,fiberglass,plaster,etc...This is a great way to get rid of stains and such.
- Another option is an eco-finish .An eco-finish is polyethylene powder coating that can be applied to your pools surface. Said to be able to last more then 50 years many find that its maintenance is very low and does not require a lot of attention.
- Finally, glass beading is one of the most popular options. Glass beadings is exactly what it sounds like. Tiny smooth glass beads. Many people who have glass beading installed found that cleaning their pools surface can be a real headache because dirt and other debris can have a hard time coming out.
